This past February brought sub-freezing temperatures that had a serious drying effect upon our skin, especially affecting our feet. While dry skin is rather common, known as xerosis, it should not be confused with Athlete’s Foot fungus (tinea pedis), which is a skin infection. Both xerosis and tinea pedis often appear dry, but tinea pedis usually exhibits scaling and a whitish color. We, at Progressive Foot care, often encounter patients who have toenail fungus, presenting for a complimentary laser consultation, that also have tinea pedis. It is often the same fungus in the toenail that is found in the skin infection.
Please watch our brief video discussing the differences between dry skin on the feet (xerosis) and Athlete’s Foot fungus (tinea pedis):
We all at Progressive Foot Care wish you and your family a pleasant upcoming Spring. Taking good care of your feet can be your first step towards good health. Remember, your feet are the foundation for your body.
Yours in good health,
Dr. Bruce Pinker, DPM, AACFAS, FAPWCA, DABPM, FACPM
